Dr Pravin Suryawanshi is a renowned Prof. & Head, Department of Surgery and Deputy Dean of MGM Medical College & Hospital, Aurangabad and C.E.O of M.G.M’s Medical Centre and Research Institute.
A skilled surgeon and administrator, Dr Pravin has earned the respect and adulation of many in the medical field with his valuable contributions to the field of surgery. His diligence and dedication towards making quality healthcare services easily accessible to a larger population, the Association of Surgeons of India has made Dr Pravin in charge of the National Program for quality enhancement across the country.
He is the first advanced laparoscopic surgeon in the Marathwada region. He has performed many complex abdominal surgeries laparoscopically like Laparoscopic Pancreatico Jejunostomy, Lap Total Colectomy & Lap Donor Nephrectomy.
He is amongst the very few laparoscopic surgeons in India to perform the Total Laparoscopic Pancreatico Duodenectomy, which is a very complex abdominal surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Dr Pravin is the only endoscopic surgeon to perform POEM (Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy) in the Marathwada region. He is also one of the few advanced therapeutic Endoscopists to have performed more than 3000 advanced Endoscopic procedures like therapeutic ERCP, EUS and Endoscopic Cystogastrostomy. He has published more than 25 papers in National & International journals and has been invited as a faculty for guest lectures. He has done live demonstrations of complex laparoscopic surgeries in National and International conferences.
Dr Pravin has a lion’s Share in not only pioneering the Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in the region, but in also popularising the technique. A few of his many notable achievements in the surgical healthcare include
The First Surgeon in the region to perform advanced minimally invasive surgeries.
The First Surgeon in the region to perform Liver Transplantation.
The First Endoscopist in the region to perform Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (Endoscopic Treatment of Achalasia).
Dr. Pravin is actively involved in Undergraduate & Postgraduate teaching and training of advanced surgical skills to surgeons across India. His goal is to advance the specialty of Endoscopy & Laparoscopy surgery by conducting clinical and laboratory research, introducing new technology and newer modalities of endoscopic treatment. It has been his constant endeavour to impart training in advanced endoscopic procedures to trainee doctors from India and abroad in order to improve GI healthcare and has set his sight on establishing a world class training institute in Aurangabad.
He has many publications in national as well as international journals to his credit. He has been a teaching and demonstrating faculty at various national and international conferences.
He was also invited as a faculty member by Advanced Laparoscopic Training Centres like ETHICON USA. He is the only faculty in the Marathwada region for the college of AMASI. His passion for teaching was appreciated by the Indian Medical Association & Lion’s Club of Aurangabad and he was awarded the Best Teacher Award.
He is a part of social activities as the President of Marathwada Hospital Association (MHA). He takes constant efforts to propagate quality healthcare services throughout Marathwada and has conducted free multi-diagnostic camps and through them, he has treated more than 10000 patients for free.
In the spirit of community outreach and participation, he has been an active patron in the “smart city” project of Aurangabad, with his “smart citizen for smart city” concept.
He has also shown his grit and dedication towards public welfare in this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, providing top notch, high quality and pocket friendly COVID-19 treatment to more than 4500 patients.
Taking a lead role as a director of enhancement of quality amongst ASI members under the ‘National Skill Enhancement Program’ under ASI. This unique initiative of ASI will definitely help small healthcare organisations to get accredited for NABH and to achieve expected quality standards in their day-to-day practice which will improve overall quality of healthcare services and patient satisfaction.
A Large section of our society still cannot afford basic healthcare services. Providing advanced healthcare to the deprived class of society was biggest challenge. Dr. Pravin has taken this challenge and makes continued efforts towards achieving the same.

Not only does he have an impressive medical career but has been involved in the development of MGM’s World class sports complex. He has organised many tournaments like, Badminton trails, marathon, cricket, fencing, chess etc.
For Dr Pravin, laparoscopic surgery is an art that can open many doors in the field of gastrointestinal surgery. His dedication and hard work towards the field of laparoscopy have been rewarded by his appointment as the youngest President Of Maharashtra, Association of Surgeons of India and EC of Association of Surgeons of India.
Did free Laparoscopic Surgery Camp at Hemalkasa for tribals in the region. Performed 38 Surgeries in a day. The camp was organised in association with Dutta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, Savangi and some companies. It was great experience to work there and meet Shri Prakash Amte and family. It gives more energy n strength to work passionately for this noble profession.

Organizing secretary of 31st Annual Conference of Maharashtra State Chapter of ASI MASICON-2009 Held at MGM’S Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad on 29th Jan. to 1st Feb.2009. For the first time International faculty Dr. Gyuseog Choi from Korea, Dr. Nageshwar Reddy from Hyderabad, had demonstrated their skills and techniques in their fields. For the first time in this conference 4 new session were introduced.

Organising Chairman of International Convention on challenges in Medical Education (ICCME-2015) organized by MGM Medical College and Hospital, Aurangabad on 9th to 11th Jan 2015 in Rukhmini Auditorium MGM Campus. 700 Delegates were attended this conference. 11 International and 32 National Faculties were delivered guest lectures on different topics.
Organizing Chairman of CME on “Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery” organized by MGM’s Medical Centre and Research Institute on 12/06/2016, at Dyotan Hall. 160 delegated attended this CME. Renowned faculties from Hyderabad and Coimbatore were delivered guest lectures.
